post doubts

Do you ever have these?...you post something then think "Why did I post that?!, I mean it does go out on the internet after-all."
I was feeling that way about my dress-up prompt yesterday..things like
Why did I say every Saturday?!!!
Are self portraits egotistical? Well are they?!!!!

I was all bummed out about my post while I wandered around in a used bookstore most likely looking all sad-sacked and then I saw this small rack of miscellaneous postcards. I started flipping through them with a woe is me energy, probably even sighing a lot and then this one below caught my eye and made my heart skip a beat

I thought it was so beautiful.

Then I read the back and found out it was a self-portrait by Edward Sheriff Curtis

Self-portraits are beautiful, They really do capture something special. What was I thinking! I was almost going to call the whole thing off!!!

I also read a passage in this in the book,by Julia Cameron Walking in This World

"Creativity is medicine. It is not dangerous or egotistical. It is life affirming and essential. The more we use it, the more we ground it and regularly access it, the better off we are. The "Healthier" we are."

I also got some super positive comments(thanks guys!)

Okay every Saturday, back on, who cares what anyone else thinks and who cares what my inner critic thinks(you'd think I would have kick this critic out years ago, how does it keep managing to sneak back in:)

dress-up prompt

Second dress-up self portrait prompt. I decide to pick my grey hat. I saw it at the store and thought it was so great, then I  tried it on at the store and I felt great...took it home and was too was frighten to wear it out.....what happen?! Why does this happen to me? One minute I am not afraid to try something new, step out of my box then the next minute being hard on myself for stepping out. I think this weekly prompt is going to be good for me, for that side of myself that is tired of playing it safe when it comes to what I wear..."You hear that dress critic side of me, you better watch out I am breaking down the box and recycling it."

If you are playing along this week please leave a link to your blog in the comments.
1.post seven photos of a self portrait session wearing something that might be out of your comfort zone(this prompt will be happening here every Saturday)

I know seven seems like a lot to some folks but you are worth seven photos a week....more really when you think about it, right?! I know I am right about this:)

2. *This is important just share what is comfortable for YOU, maybe it is just a shoe shot or your wrist with some bangles on it, maybe not all seven photos have you in them but instead they might capture the feeling and mood of the photo shoot.

3. Leave your link to your post in the comments.

....maybe you will be like me and say "Yes this is scary, comfort level is feeling very shaky, but whatever, I am still just going for it! :)

I met this very kind artist the other day working away on his wonderful mural.  If you live in Eugene you can find his mural on the side if the New Zone gallery, he also sells his work there.

More photos from my walks home I think I am catching some spring fever

be queen for a day

Finished her and her pet crow

here is a photo of the original print from the book Currier and Ives Printmakers to the American People

pulling out the paints

Oh...it has been too long since I pulled out all the painting supplies...It felt really good to paint this morning. I am painting over old prints that I made black and white copies of (the prints are from an old used  book I found)
This is Queen Victoria and her pet crow(I decided she had an old pet crow because crows are so smart and loving)
It is fun to paint over an existing image and change it up

on the bus

I was on the bus coming back from Portland to Eugene. How many times have I been on this highway between the two? Am I falling back in love with Oregon? Did I ever really fall out of love? Italy did charm me that is for sure...but you know what, it did not win my heart, Oregon had it all along and I did not know this until now.

Regina said to me "You use a green in your paintings" I realized when she said this that it was Oregon's green, she also uses a green in her paintings the green where she is from. We both thought this was interesting and funny...

Oregon with your red barns sprinkled everywhere on your rich green landscape, your big oaks, cattle, and farmhouses that are protected by groups of trees, my face is pressed up against the window of this bus....taking you in...falling in love all over again.

dress-up prompt

Who is up for joining me in a weekly prompt?

Posting will be on Saturdays

Here is the prompt
*you take seven photos that share you!(Yes seven:)

*You step out of your comfort zone and wear something that is you but you would normally say "I can't wear that!!"(yes sort-of like dress-up) - you can start small with this, maybe it is just a fun big flower ring that you like but would talk yourself out of, or a bright scarf that you want to tie in your hair, or eyeshadow that you would never ever in a million years wear but secretly want too ...getting my drift here.....this is meant to be fun and letting yourself take risks, the sky is the limit when it comes to dress-up!

*The seven photos to share are what is comfortable for YOU, maybe it is just a shoe shot or your wrist with some bangles on it....or maybe you will be like me and say "yes this is scary, comfort level is feeling very shaky, but whatever, am going for it:)"

*leave a comment here with your link to your post so people can check it out.(maybe later if people join I can figure out a better system for this)

*I used pic monkey for my correcting my photos and choosing frames

* This video got me to thinking "Why not!"

I picked a vintage polka dotted dress I found the other day I loved it and thought "why not!"

I have to give a shout out for Sundance Natural Foods today. This is the first store to carry my postcards here in town, and today they purchased more from me. (see me smiling big as I type this) I remember shopping here at age 8, funny how life is! Now they carry my postcards. It has not change since I was a kid, it still has a welcoming and cozy atmosphere.

I walked my youngest to school today, let me just brag..."Eugene is so beautiful right now!"

I can not wait to tell my youngest about hawthorn trees being the fairies and elves' favorite tree she was an avid fairy house maker when she was younger and we are lucky enough to have one of these spectacular trees in our backyard
Eugene is known for it's running and biking trails. They are beautiful and wind everywhere throughout our town.
