a little about me and my art

Katy Keuter, (Artist)
I was born in San Francisco, California, but consider Oregon my home as it is where I was raised.

I attended Lane Community College in 1985-1989 and this is where my love of the arts was truly kindled. During this time period I not only took classes at Lane community College but also at the University of Oregon’s Craft Center.  I also put together a successful showing of some paintings in 1989, had two paintings selected to be in the New Zone Art Gallery in Eugene, Oregon,  and I had a booth at Eugene’s Saturday market where I sold my original stained glass work.
In 1991 I moved to Portland Oregon, and worked for a motion picture film company called Teknifilm Labs. Our clients included Gus Van Sant, Will Vinton Studios, Nike, and Wieden and Kennedy Advertising. Working for this company was a very rich experience and allowed me to be surrounded by people who influenced my desire to continue creating.
In 1994 I had my first child. He was soon followed by my other two children. I write this in my bio because this is the most important part of my development as an artist and the most important position I have held to date, being a mother.
I started oil painting classes which instilled a love for painting people.  Finally, this was a time when I decided to have a booth again at Eugene’s Saturday Market.  I sold ceramics, sewn goods, and paper crafts.
In 2001 a quilted fabric piece I made was selected to be shown at the juried Eugene's Mayor's Art Show.
In 2009 I officially opened up my first on-line shop through etsy, kt40. In 2010 I had two paintings selected by Brownyn Keenan, currently working for New York Guggenheim Museum, for her “My etsy art collection” show in New York City.
In 2010 I had four photographs selected to be in the Air force Gallery. Then again in 2011 three of my photographs were selected by the the Air Force Gallery.
In 2011 I was selected in to a juried art show at Lane Community college titled 40 works.
I currently sell my artwork locally in Eugene, Oregon, at local stores, galleries and at the Saturday market.
In 2013 I had a painting selected to be in the Eugene mayor's art show and was awarded the jurors pick award for my painting light in the darkness.
